Working draught horses are large, muscular, and intelligent, typically standing 16–19 hands and weighing over 600–900 kg
Bred for immense strength in farming, logging, and heavy pulling. Key breeds include Clydesdale, Percheron, Shire, and Belgian. They are versatile, eco-friendly alternatives to machinery for logging and sustainable agriculture.
Key Characteristics and Use Cases
Physical Traits: These horses have heavy, muscular builds with strong legs, often featuring light-to-medium feathering.
Temperament: They are known as "gentle giants"—calm, steady, and intelligent.
Common Uses: Beyond historical farm work, they are used for log snigging,, agricultural tasks (ploughing, harrowing), and pulling heavy loads in competitions.
